![]() The U/B Cycling/Discard deck isn’t as focused in HOU/HOU/AKH as it was in triple-Amonkhet, but the payoffs are still there, if you can enable them, and if you don’t quite get there, the cycling cards still provide decent value and won’t detract from the solid midrange plan that is enabled by the non-cycling focused U/B card pool.Ī couple of Uncommons that might pull you into this archetype are Merciless Eternal (this is a good creature on its own, and paired with any Cycling/Discard Payoff just gets better) and Vile Manifestation (it has cycling itself, so as a worst case replaces itself, but can be quite good with enough other cyclers around). Dutiful Servants, though not a very exciting card, can help fill that role. You might want need some blockers to help your eternalize/embalm creatures gum up the ground while you’re flyers are chipping away at your opponent’s life total. ![]() Unwavering Initiate and Proven Combatant are both fine targets for Vizier of the Anointed to find at common, meaning you should be able to pick some up to help round out the deck. And don’t forget Cartouche of Knowledge, which is a great value card and get get one of your ground-based embalm or eternalize creatures up in the air. Other common flyers that are great for this deck include Shimmerscale Drake, Aerial Guide, Aven of Enduring Hope, Dauntless Aven, Tah-Crop Elite, and Winged Shepherd. Uncommon cards that should pull you into this archetype are Sunscourge Champion (two fine cards that together gain you 6 life), Vizier of the Anointed (a potent tutor for decks with decent embalm/eternalize creatures), and Sinuous Striker (excellant value, even at the cost of discarding a card).Īven Initiate is a common that hits the sweet spot both as an embalm creature and a flyer. All of the Hour of Devastation Eternalize creatures at Common and Uncommon are in these colors, Of those only Sunscourge Champion and Sinuous Striker are really great, though Proven Combatant can block early and be a decent mana sink in the late game. Most W/U decks in this format end up being a hybrid between Embalm/Eternalize and Flyers. To help people prepare, I thought I’d take a look at what the supported two-color archetypes are for this draft format, as well as cards that are significant to have at the front of your mind (for one reason or another) while drafting it. In this format you will draft three boosters: the first two will be Hour of Devastation followed by a single pack of Amonkhet. I’ve been playing a lot of Ranked and Quick Constructed lately, as well as this week’s (Wednesday) flash event and having a lot of fun, but now I’m looking forward to the next new format: Draft!įrom 3 PM (UTC) on Friday, May 4 through 5 PM (UTC) on Monday, May 7, Hour of Devastation Quick Draft will be available. Hello and welcome to another Daily Arena!
